So now you must be asking yourself, "What the hell happened?" or for you newbies, "What the fuck kind of lame-ass site is this?" Actually, a lot of you are probably thinking, "Oh, so he actually did it..." No wait, it may be closer to "Thank fucking Christ, it's gone."
Whatever the case may be, the point here is that STLE is closed. No longer will there be shitty comics except for a few I may do to experiment with style (of course, I need my scanner to work first), nor will there be long dramatic posts that amount to nothing (besides this one).
Why am I closing the site? Well, to be quite frank, I have a lot of reasons. Many of them personal, many of them for the well being of the site and some for the well being of friendships. Most importantly, however, the site simply isn't going anywhere right now. No one cares anymore, and the few things that do get posted have no use being displayed or really have any value to them at all, and that includes what I post. I've been throwing the idea of shutting it down for quite some time and I've had many back me up on this, and I think it's about time. Not to mention we've actually been eating up our bandwidth pretty well this month, and the site often won't load anyway.
I just want to finally get some work done around here. I've been putting it off and putting it off forever now and with things the way they are, I'm not going to get anything done. I figure that maybe if I shut down the site, then that should help motivate me more to get it back online rather than depending on people like Rob, Darrin and Lloyd to entertain everyone.
Don't get the wrong idea, though, this is only temporary. STLE will be back at some point, I just don't know when. I have finally figured out what I want to do with it and now that I have a few weeks before school gets hectic again and seeing as I'm probably going to have a lot of free time on my hands, I figure I might as well use it all to my advantage.
Just to let you know what I am working on presently, here's a list of stuff in the works:
A completely new design, never before seen by anyone affiliated with STLE or otherwise. I've been working on it in my head for about two weeks and I plan on starting it later this week.
New comic style, new characters, maybe even a new writer.
Learning PHP and MySQL in my free time to try and make things easier and to get away from Blogger.
New features and writer's columns with a new staff to help out...if we decide to keep that section. No offense, guys, it's just not working out.
New server and new emial accounts.
And I think that's enough for now.
To add a little more detail, however, the new design is what I'm presently spending the most time with as it is the foundation of the site. Once I get that settled, I will work hard on what I want the new comic style to look like, although I'm working on that now as well, just not as hard seeing as I have some time to figure that one out. The PHP stuff and all that means nothing to you all, and probably won't happen until after the site reopens anyway. I am looking for new writers, so if you're interested, let me know. I want to make sure I have the design pretty much settled before I purchase the server, so it will most likely be close to the end of the semester before the server is paid for. There's no reason to pay for a server that's not being used.
When the site does come back, we will be starting from scratch. That means that while the comic will probably be similar and will still be under the same name, it will be totally different at the same time. I will, however, keep the old comics online simply to show progression. The features may be cut, some may stay. I haven't totally decided yet. It all depends on if people want to continue writing them or not.
I am going to keep a few links available to everyone should you feel the need to visit some parts of the site. They are still online, so if you know the URL to them, go for it. Here are a couple main ones, though:
Comic Archives - Feel free to browse the old shit-tastic comics. Features - I'll leave the old features up if you feel like reading them, or if someone decides to updates their's. Forum - I'll leave this up for now and see how it goes.
Other than that, though, I don't think there's anything that needs to be here anymore
